NEWS AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION (DTT) IN BOLIVIA (2018-2019)
Summary

USE OF LOCAL METEOROLOGICAL VARIABLES IN RADIO PROPAGATION STUDIES FOR SLANT PATH AND TERRESTRIAL RADIOLINK DESIGN

Project:
Use of local meteorological variables in radio propagation studies for slant path and terrestrial radio link design
Director of the project:
Gustavo A. Siles, PhD

Email: gustavosiles@upb.edu
Project duration:
September 2017 - ongoing

Summary:
This project aims to open a new research line in Bolivia focused in the study of the influence of atmospheric phenomena on the radiowave propagation. With this purpose, the LRC will begin to gather and measure meteorological parameters, in particular pluviometry and radiosonde observations. Agreements and joint works with the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (SENAMHI) are expected. Once meteo data were obtained the main framework will be the most recent ITU-R Recommendations on propagation.

CHARACTERIZATION OF RADIOMETEOROLOGICAL PARAMETERS BASED ON MULTI-YEAR MEASUREMENTS OF ZENITH TROPOSPHERIC DELAY AND RAIN RATE

Project:
Characterization of radiometeorological parameters based on multi-year measurements of zenith tropospheric delay and rain rate
Director of the project:
Gustavo A. Siles, PhD

Email: gustavosiles@upb.edu
Project duration:
September 2017 - ongoing

Summary:
In this project, the LRC cooperates with the GTIC research group from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in order to carry out studies on a variety of radiowave propagation topics. In particular, the following collaborations are of interest: a) application of GNSS meteorology on satellite propagation experiments, b) analysis of radiosounding and rain rate databases in order to study radiometeorological parameters of interest, such as the 0ºC isotherm

NEWS AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION IN BOLIVIA

Project:
News and perspectives of the implementation of digital terrestrial television in Bolivia
Director of the project:
Andres Laguna, PhD and Gustavo A. Siles,PhD
Email: andreslaguna@upb.edu, gustavosiles@upb.edu
Project duration:
September 2018 - ongoing

Summary:
The research seeks to diagnose the current situation of the implementation of DTT in Bolivia, its effects, challenges, and perspectives from a technical-regulatory perspective and audiovisual content production. In addition, it will be a study on the current situation of the radio spectrum in UHF frequencies and their perspectives of use before the implementation of DTT and a description of the possible impact of the transition from an analogical to a digital technology. Finally, the project seeks to determine if there will be changes in the television production logics, in the content design, in the ways of distribution of Bolivian audiovisual material and to evaluate the impact of a new media law that regulates contents that will be broadcasted through DTT.
