Abstract

This study analyzes the logistics factor in Bolivia's trade volume in order to obtain a quantitative measurement of the overall effect and disaggregated by region. In the first part, indicators are analyzed in order to evaluate the situation of the logistics sector in Bolivia in relation to other countries in the region and to identify its relative position. Subsequently, by means of a mixed effects panel applied to the gravity model in trade, the importance of the improvement in the length of asphalt roads and mobile service lines (proxies of the internal logistic factor) as determining components in the country's foreign trade is demonstrated; this effect is also differentiated considering national and international regions. This study is an important contribution to the existing literature, since it incorporates elements that are not taken into account in other works at the Bolivian level.
